Opened on 31/08/1890 Barmouth South was one of two Dutton designed locking frame signal boxes serving Barmouth station on the Cambrian Coast line. Dutton was responsible for a number of Cambrian Railway Co. signal boxes as well as some on the Neath & Brecon Railway, Its sister box Barmouth North closed on 29/09/1974 but Barmouth South survived through to the installation of RETB (Radio Electric Token Block) signalling in 1988 and finally closed on 22/10/1988.
